Il duo violino e pianoforte formato da CARLO DUMONT e FABRIZIO ROMANO nel 2002, esplora le possibilità di coniugare il rigore e la plasticità timbrica, peculiarità del quartetto d’archi, con la libertà e l’agilità esecutiva tipica del pianoforte, in una collaborazione cameristica stabile che individua come suo tratto esecutivo naturale, un ideale estetico romantico, inteso come intensa ed intima partecipazione al processo creativo. Dopo più di vent’anni il duo ha al suo attivo numerosi concerti ed un repertorio che non ha smesso di arricchirsi con le sonate di Schubert, Ravel, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Franck, Dvorak, rivolgendo una particolare attenzione alle opere di scuola napoletana, pagine di raro ascolto di compositori come Longo, Martucci, Cesi, Pilati, Cilea, Alfano. Negli anni il duo ha realizzato diversi progetti musicali, tra cui “Frei Aber Einsam”, l’integrale della produzione per violino e pianoforte di Schumann e Brahms, intrecciata in un ciclo di quattro concerti, e “Das musikalische Tagebuch“, il ciclo delle 10 sonate beethoveniane, in quattro appuntamenti.
Nel 2024 è uscito per l’etichetta discografica DA VINCI CLASSIC un CD della versione per violino e pianoforte de “Le ultime sette parole di Cristo sulla Croce” di F. J. Haydn, in una trascrizione curata dal Duo.
Il violinista CARLO DUMONT, formatosi con Giulio Franzetti, Franco Gulli e Norbert Brainin, si è dedicato soprattutto alla musica da camera, perfezionandosi come quartettista con l’Amadeus Quartet (Royal Academy of Music di Londra) e l’Alban Berg Quartet (Musikhocschule di Lubecca). Parallelamente all’attività didattica, svolge attività concertistica, tenendo recital per violino solo e in diverse formazioni cameristiche, tra cui principalmente il Quartetto d’archi Gagliano, formazione che lo ha visto suonare per le maggiori associazioni, partecipando a festival internazionali ed interprete del più significativo repertorio quartettistico. Nella stagione 2019/2020 ha presentato con il Quartetto Gagliano il ciclo integrale dei quartetti di Ludwig van Beethoven, in occasione del 250° anniversario del compositore. Dal 2009 è stato invitato a collaborare con l’International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation di Bruxelles, di cui è divenuto “artista ambasciatore”, esibendosi nelle principali capitali europee. Suona un violino costruito a Brescia agli inizi del XVIII secolo.
Il pianista FABRIZIO ROMANO si è formato con Sergio Fiorentino, Aldo Ciccolini e Viktor Merzhanov, studiando anche direzione d’orchestra e composizione. Si è esibito per diverse associazioni musicali in Italia e all’estero, in veste di solista e in formazioni da camera, registrando trasmissioni radiofoniche e televisive per la RAI, France2, Canal+, Arté e per la rete australiana SBS. All’attività concertistica ha affiancato un’intensa attività di compositore ed orchestratore per numerosi spettacoli teatrali, collaborando con importanti registi e attori e scrivendo le musiche per diversi programmi televisivi della RAI. Ha inoltre curato l’orchestrazione e l’allestimento di balletti rappresentati, tra gli altri, al Teatro San Carlo di Napoli ed ha firmato le sonorizzazioni e le orchestrazioni di alcuni film del cinema muto napoletano. Collabora come pianista e arrangiatore con l'artista portoghese Misia, registrando per la Sony Classical, la Warner Music e la Galileo.

The Violin and Piano Duo formed by CARLO DUMONT and FABRIZIO ROMANO in 2002 explores the possibilities of combining the rigor and timbric plasticity, peculiarities of the string quartet, with the freedom and executive agility typical of the piano, in a chamber collaboration stable which identifies as its natural executive trait, a romantic aesthetic ideal, understood as intense and intimate participation in the creative process. After more than twenty years, the duo has numerous concerts to its credit and a repertoire that has not ceased to be enriched with sonatas by Schubert, Ravel, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Franck, Dvorak, paying particular attention to the works of the Neapolitan school, pages rarely heard of composers such as Longo, Martucci, Cesi, Pilati, Cilea, Alfano. Over the years the duo has created several musical projects, including “Frei Aber Einsam”, the complete production for violin and piano by Schumann and Brahms, woven into a cycle of four concerts, and “Das musikalische Tagebuch”, the cycle of 10 Beethoven sonatas, in four appointments.
In 2024, a CD of the version for Violin and Piano of "The Last Seven Words of Christ on the Cross" by F. J. Haydn was released on the DA VINCI CLASSIC record label, in a transcription edited by the Duo.

Parallel to his teaching activity, he carries out concert activities, holding recitals for solo violin and in various chamber ensembles, including mainly the Gagliano String Quartet, an ensemble that has seen him play for the major associations, participating in international festivals and interpreting the most significant quartet repertoire. In the 2019/2020 season he presented the complete cycle of Ludwig van Beethoven's string quartets with the Gagliano String Quartet, on the occasion of the composer's 250th anniversary. Since 2009 he has been invited to collaborate with the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation in Brussels, of which he has become "artist ambassador", performing in the main European capitals. He plays a violin made in Brescia at the beginning of the 18th century.
The pianist FABRIZIO ROMANO trained with Sergio Fiorentino, Aldo Ciccolini and Viktor Merzhanov, also studying conducting and composition. He has performed for various musical associations in Italy and abroad, as a soloist and in chamber ensembles, recording radio and television broadcasts for RAI, France2, Canal +, Arté and for the Australian network SBS. Alongside his concert activity, he has worked intensely as a composer and orchestrator for numerous theatrical shows, collaborating with important directors and actors and writing the music for various RAI television programmes. He also oversaw the orchestration and staging of ballets performed, among others, at the San Carlo Theater in Naples and signed the soundtracks and orchestrations of some Neapolitan silent cinema films. He collaborates as a pianist and arranger with the Portuguese artist Misia, recording for Sony Classical, Warner Music and Galileo.
